Senior Analytics & AI Engineer
About Measure Well
Measure Well helps cradle-to-career and place-based partnerships use data and AI to see what is working and improve outcomes for children and families. Ballmer Group, which backs leaders working on economic mobility across the United States, funds our work. TechSoup, a global nonprofit that has connected mission-driven organizations with technology for 30 years, is our fiscal sponsor.
Location
This role is US remote, with the option to sit in our Boston headquarters in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA.
Reports to: Chief AI & Data Officer
Travel: Up to 25%
The role
You will be the first technical teammate to join our Chief AI & Data Officer (CAIDO). An implementation partner is building our new data platform this winter. You will turn it into dashboards our staff and partners use every week and into AI tools our field can trust. Most of your time goes to building, with dashboards first and AI products close behind. You will also learn the platform well enough to keep it healthy after the handover.
What you will do
- Dashboards and data visualization (about 40%). Build and maintain Omni dashboards for staff and partner organizations, and agree what each number means before you chart it.
- AI products (about 30%). Build features on Claude, run evaluation sets, review outputs with program staff, and ship improvements safely.
- Analytics engineering and platform care (about 20%). Write and review dbt models, watch nightly loads, manage access, run approved syncs into HubSpot, and keep documentation current.
- Working with people (about 10%). Mentor our Claude Corps Fellows and review their code. Help colleagues and partners understand what the data shows.
How we work
We are a small team where one person drives each decision and one person approves it. Our implementation partner builds the core platform and hands it to us. We check consent inside our data models, and nobody is on call overnight. Our tools: Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt Core, Omni, Mixpanel, Census, Claude, GitHub and HubSpot (similar experience counts).
Physical and work environment requirements
- Physical Requirements: High frequency of viewing a computer monitor, typing on a computer keyboard, checking mobile devices for communications. Requires travel of 25% for work.
- Every team member will have an opportunity to set up their home or work office space to be a motivating and work/life friendly environment.

Must-haves
- Five or more years building dashboards or data products that non-technical people rely on, with examples to show.
- At least one AI feature you shipped to real users, such as a retrieval tool, an agent or an LLM-backed workflow, and a clear account of how you tested it.

- A knack for explaining data to people who are not specialists, and commitment to the communities our partners serve.
Also a must-have: enough pipeline engineering

- You read a dbt model and add a test to it.
- You trace a dashboard number back to the warehouse and show that the two match.
- You explain how row-level security keeps one partner out of another's data, and prove it with a test user.
- You run our runbook's failure drill from start to finish without help.
Nice-to-haves
- Backend data engineering, for example from full-stack work at a small firm. We welcome it but do not require it.
- Snowflake, Omni, Mixpanel, Census, Python, or analytics embedded for customers.
- Nonprofit or public-sector work, or experience with consent rules for personal data.
