What You'll Be Doing

The call with Dana Okonjo went reasonably well. That was nineteen days ago. Since then: two emails from you, no reply. One voicemail, no reply. Her assistant declined a calendar hold without a reason.

Here is what Dana actually said on that first call, verbatim from your notes:

“We do about fourteen thousand loads a month. Dispatch is twenty-two people across two shifts.”

“The night shift is the problem. Nobody wants it. I’ve had four people quit that desk in a year.”

“Ledgerlane got ETAs wrong and my customers noticed. Marty took two of those phone calls himself. I’m not doing that again.”

“Corbin is fine. It’s not going anywhere. Whatever we do has to sit on top of it.”

“I don’t have budget this year. I might have budget in Q1.”

“Send me something I can show Renée.” (Renée Salcedo is the CFO. You have never met her.)

You have four raw sources. You did not have any of them nineteen days ago.

  • Source A — Ardent Logistics job posting, posted 9 days ago: > “Carrier Sales Representative — Night Shift (11:00pm–7:00am). 4 openings. Chicago, IL, on-site. Competitive shift differential.”
  • Source B — Corbin TMS press release, January 2026: > “Corbin today announced Corbin Copilot, an AI assistant embedded in the Corbin platform. Copilot will enter general availability in Q3 2026 and will be included at no additional cost for customers on the Corbin Enterprise tier.”
  • Source C — Ardent customer newsletter, July 2026, one line: > “Our on-time delivery performance improved to 91.2%, up from 89.8% last year. Thank you for your partnership.”
  • Source D — Reddit, r/FreightBrokers, posted 5 weeks ago by an account describing itself as a night dispatcher at a Chicago 3PL: > “Company wants 40 check calls a shift minimum. Half of them I’m calling a driver at 3am to hear nothing changed. Then I get dinged if my numbers are low. There has to be a better way to do this job.”

Write what gets you the second call.

Constraints to consider

  • Your email is 120 words or fewer. Nineteen days of silence has already told you she does not read long emails from you.
  • You may not reference Source D as though you know it is about Ardent. It is an anonymous post from an unnamed company. Using it as an assertion about her operation is a fabrication; using it as a hypothesis you hold privately is not.
  • You cannot offer a discount, a pilot at no cost, or an extended trial. Halyard does not do free pilots and you have no pricing authority.
  • You must use at least one source and deliberately not use at least one other, and say which and why. Do not use all four.
  • She said “no budget this year, maybe Q1.” Any message that ignores her stated budget position will read as though you were not listening.

AI Usage Guidance

We expect you to use AI tools. We evaluate how you use them — not whether you use them. Evidence of iteration, redirection, and critical evaluation scores higher than a polished output with no process documentation.

The single highest-signal indicator: your video answer to the mandatory AI question. If you cannot name a specific moment where you redirected AI output, evaluators will assume you did not.

Mandatory AI question for your video: Walk me through one moment where you disagreed with, pushed back on, or redirected what the AI gave you — and what you did instead. Name the specific moment. Explain what the AI produced that didn’t meet the bar, what you did differently, and why.

Communication presence is part of this role. We assess rapport-building, objection handling, and ability to tailor messaging — delivery style matters here.

What You'll Accomplish

Convert raw, unstructured source material into a specific reason for a buyer to re-engage

Distinguish a signal that changes the buyer’s timeline from one that merely proves you did research

Write a short re-engagement message that respects a stated budget constraint rather than arguing with it

Judge which research is usable in a customer-facing message and which is not

Deliver a voicemail that a busy operations leader would return

What to Submit

File 1 — The Email

Document · 120 words max EmailRequired

Format: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .md

The Email plus a three-line call plan: the email exactly as you would send it, subject line included. Below it, three lines: what you want to happen next, what you expect her objection to be, and what you will do if she does not reply again.

File 2 — README Document

DocumentRequired

Format: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .md

Three required sections:

  • Section A — Written analysis: the source you built on and why it is the one that changes her timeline rather than the one that proves you did homework; the source you deliberately did not use and why. 200–300 words.
  • Section B — The CFO artifact: Dana said “send me something I can show Renée.” In no more than 150 words, describe exactly what that artifact is — what it contains, what number is on it, and where that number comes from. You do not have to build it. You have to be specific enough that someone else could.
  • Section C — AI Usage Log (Mandatory): This is not a trick. We want to see how you work with AI — not whether you used it. In a short section of your README, document your AI collaboration process. For each significant interaction with an AI tool, briefly note: what you asked the AI to help with / what it gave you / what you kept, changed, or rejected — and why. Three interactions documented is sufficient. The log does not need to be exhaustive.

File 3 — Video

Video · 4–5 minutesRequired

Format: .mp4, .mov, .webm

Record as MP4 or MOV and upload directly on the Provn platform as a separate file. Cover: (1) leave the sixty-second voicemail live, as you would actually leave it — ~60 sec; (2) which source you built on and why it beats the others, ~60 sec; (3) how you handled the budget objection without arguing with it, ~60 sec; (4) the mandatory AI question, ~60 sec; (5) what you would do if she still does not reply, ~30 sec. Speak as you would to a real buyer.
