What You'll Be Doing
You're a summer intern in Wells Fargo's Internal Audit group. Your team lead hands you a
one-page write-up of how the expense reimbursement process currently works at a mid-size
business unit and asks for a quick first-pass review before the team's kickoff meeting.
THE PROCESS (as described to you):
- Employee submits an expense report with receipts through an internal portal.
- Employee's direct manager reviews and clicks "Approve" — approval is required within 5 business days or the report auto-approves.
- Finance processes payment via the next payroll cycle. No secondary review before payment.
- Receipts over $75 require an itemized receipt; anything under does not.
- Quarterly, Finance spot-checks 10 reports out of several thousand for accuracy.
YOUR TASK:
In writing, identify 2–3 specific control gaps or risks in this process (be specific
about what could go wrong and how) and note one preliminary recommendation for each.
Then explain, in a short paragraph, how you'd use an AI tool (like Copilot) to help you
organize or research this — and where you'd stop trusting the AI's output and apply your
own judgment instead.
Then record a 2–3 minute video walking through how you found each issue and one specific
moment you'd double-check or push back on an AI-generated answer rather than accept it
as-is.
What You'll Accomplish
Communicate audit observations in a way a team lead could act on immediately
Identify control weaknesses in a described business process using structured analytical thinking
Translate an identified risk into a clear preliminary recommendation
Apply professional skepticism to AI-assisted research rather than accepting AI output uncritically
